One Simple Step Toward an Organized Home
Starting with one simple step can really make a difference.
What is that one simple step?
Make a to-do list!
Having a list with a plan can really change your mood.
As you check items off your list, you gain motivation to keep going and check more things off your list.
You can put anything you want on your list instead of relying on pre-made checklists that you probably downloaded 5 years ago and forgot about.
When you make your own checklist, you are in control of how much or how little you include.
Start simple with small tasks so you motivate yourself to keep going.
To-Do List Ideas
Come up with some simple tasks that you know you can complete so you have items to check off.
As you go through your list each day, you can discover patterns in your cleaning so you can make your own checklist that you can reuse to save yourself time.
If you have kids, don't forget to get them involved in the cleaning as well!
Ideas for daily cleaning and organizing could include:
- make bed
- do dishes
- take one item off your desk and either put it in a drawer, discard it, or donate it
- put papers you want to keep inside labeled binders
- use hanging file folders to file away important papers
- do a load of laundry

- after grocery shopping, move old food and cans up to the top and to the left to use it first and put new food items toward the bottom and to the right
- pick one item from your home to discard or donate
- catch up on shredding junk mail

Your Main Focus When you Organize Your Home
When you organize your home, your main focus should actually to be to donate and/or discard items from your home.
Having too much stuff can clutter up your home and make it almost impossible to get organized.
Buying more totes, bins, boxes, bags, etc. will not help you in the long run when organizing your home.
Those items are temporary fixes and can be helpful in the short term as long as you label your totes and boxes properly so you can easily find what you need.
So, grab a notebook and a pen and start writing your to-do list!
Let me know in the comments some things you have added to your list so we can help each other organize!
Thanks so much for reading and happy organizing,
